Maharana Mewar Foundation Annual Awards

The Maharana Mewar Foundation Award Distribution 2002-2003 The Maharana Mewar Foundation Annual Awards constitute a major part of the activities of the Maharana Mewar Charitable Foundation (MMCF). It is an important function of the Trust. From a modest beginning of awards only for scholars in Udaipur, the range of this Scheme of Awards has steadily grown to become an event in the domestic and international arena.  Today, the Awards honour the recognition of service of permanent value already rendered to society in which, eminent scholars, students and common citizens who, through their chosen field of study and activity, have been of benefit to society.

His late Highness, Maharana Bhagwat Singhji Mewar, instituted the Maharana Mewar Annual Awards in 1980. In order to achieve the objectives of the Maharana Mewar Charitable Foundation, as outlined by Maharana Bhagwat Singhji, the Maharana Mewar Scheme of Awards was established. He described this act in his own words:

"…(This is) a humble effort to preserve the age old traditions and obligations of the House of Mewar to serve society and assist man who realises his special status in the hierarchy of God's creations and to serve as a temple of inspiration to future generations to preserve and protect the spirit of self-respect and self-reliance."

Today, the Awards Scheme applauds eminent scholars, even students and common citizens who, through their chosen field of activity, have by outstanding achievements, enriched the society of man.

The Maharana Mewar Foundation Award Distribution Ceremony 2003-2004 Annually, over 135 (the figure continually varies) people receive these Awards, and subsequently, their labour benefits from the proceeds of these awards.

Sir Conrad Corfield, at his meeting with Maharana Fateh Singhji, neatly summed up the present endeavour of these charitable foundations.

" There was clearly something to be said for preserving such qualities for the future well-being of India."

The activities under the aegis of the Maharana Mewar Charitable Foundation are in accordance with the values and principles and in consonance with the responsibilities and duties that were laid down in the past.

There are in all 15 awards, which are wide reaching in scope, and particular in design. Each year, a distinguished panel of eminent scholars, artists, historians, politicians and civil servants put forward a list of potential awardees. The Awards are annually bestowed on some 136 people and the number of awardees varies from year to year.
